Donald Westra Jr. M.D. Becomes Part of the History of Florida

The effect on early Native American populations of the European presence in Florida was devastating in terms of the diseases and illnesses which there was no defense against, primarily influenza and smallpox.  On the plus side, the introduction of cattle, horses, and sheep to what would become the state of Florida would form the crux of the Floridian economy far into the 20th century, still an attractive draw for the retirees who rent the properties of Donald Westra Jr. M.D. today.

The oldest city in the United States is St. Augustine, Florida, founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers claiming the region for the Spanish King.  St. Augustine was burned to the ground by the English more than once, before the Spanish established Fort Matanzas and Castillo de San Marcos to defend the settlement.  The colony of Pensacola, established in 1559, was also abandoned in 1561.  Spanish settlements had a tenuous hold on the early Florida of Donald Westra Jr. M.D.

English colonies in the north of the region and French colonies in west Florida had already begun to push Spanish claims out.   The majority of Floridians today still claim European ethnicity, in common with Donald Westra JR MD.  The treaty of the Seven Years War saw Spain relinquish its Florida holdings in exchange for control of Havana, Cuba, and the majority of the Spanish in Florida relocated to Cuba, along with a majority of the remaining Native Americans.  The British undertook to encourage white settlement in Florida, and initiated land grant programs, which attracted British colonists from South Carolina, Georgia and England, as well as colonists from the British colony of Bermuda.

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. – Staying Healthy after 50

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. was a very successful medical professional who worked in both gynecology and obstetrics. He is now retired and owns and manages his own investment properties through Florida and North Carolina. He feels that it’s important to stay active and even more3 so when you reach the age of 50. He stays involved in numerous activities such as running, working out, and bike riding. As people approach 50, they have to change the way they both exercise and eat. What worked at 20, 30, and 40 just doesn’t produce the same results at 50.

Eating healthy is probably the best things you can do as you approach the middle years. Taking vitamins such as B-12, iron, calcium and Vitamin D are important. You also want to cut back on salt, which includes processed foods (chips, frozen dinners, canned soup, etc.). Your salt intake should stay around 1500 mg or less per day, which is about ½ tsp. Try adding flavorful herbs in place of salt when you cook at home. Many herbs provide anti-cancer benefits; thyme, oregano, and rosemary are all high in antioxidants.

Exercise responsibly and don’t overdo it. As you get older, your body changes and the same exercises may not be good for your body. You want to stick with lower impact exercises and do plenty of stretching.  Another essential thing when doing a regular exercise routine is to have off days for rest.

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. is very conscious of w3aht he eats and getting enough exercise weekly. He also makes sure to not overdo it and take time off to allow his body to recuperate.

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. Becomes Resident of a State Rich in History

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. has had a 34-year career in the medical profession, as an ob/gyn.  Retired now, Westra no longer holds medical licenses in North Carolina and Florida, where he now manages properties for Westra Properties.  North Carolina, in the southeastern United States, is bordered by the states of South Carolina and Georgia on its southern boundaries, Tennessee to the west, and Virginia on its northernmost border.  The capital of North Carolina is Raleigh, although the largest city in North Carolina is Charlotte.  What was once primarily an agricultural economy of tobacco farming and harvesting of deep forest trees for woodworking, has evolved into an economy strong in engineering, biotechnology and finance concerns.

Originally known as the Province of Carolina, North Carolina was one of the original thirteen colonies founded by the British in the New World.  Early in its history the Atlantic coast of the state was a favorite haunt of pirates, but after 1718 the danger subsided and strong population growth ensued from Scotch-Irish, English, Quaker and German immigrants, continuing with Donald Westra Jr. M.D.   Carolinian frontiersmen preferred defending their own backwoods to joining the Revolutionary units of the Revolution, with only 7800 men serving under General George Washington.  After independence was achieved, North Carolina‘s economy flourished under a plantation slavery system which produced cotton and tobacco for export on the coast.  The western portion of the state was populated primarily by white colonists who subsisted on small farms.  By the millennium, North Carolina was the eighth-fastest growing state in terms of population.

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. – Church Sponsored Mission Trips for Medicine

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. retired from the field of medicine, but still tries to give back through his church. He has given his time and medical expertise to help those in need by enlisting in medical mission trips to places such as Venezuela, Peru, and Zimbabwe.  When deciding to go on a medical mission, it’s important for professionals to know what to expect. You can learn a little about the area by visiting government travel sites. You also want to follow a few guidelines that can keep you safe.

The first rule of thumb is to pack your bags moderately. Most organizations only allow you to take two bags, one for personal use and the other for medicine.  Try to pack just what you need and don’t bring valuables. Remember that many of these countries have a certain amount of poverty, so don’t be flashy and wear those designer jeans or shoes.

Learn more about the customs in the country that you will be staying. For example, can women wear pants? Can a man wear a pair of shorts? Are there certain gestures that mean something very different in this country?

Most importantly, know the rules of professional practice in the country where you are going. Your host organization most likely will have this information, but the responsibility falls on you to make sure you are practicing within the laws of the country. Some countries will want a copy of the health care practitioner’s licenses ahead of time.

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. enjoys traveling and is appreciative of having the opportunity to help people while also being able to see other countries.

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. – Managing Home Rentals

Donald Westra Jr. M.D. owns various properties in both Florida and North Carolina, which he also manages.  Before getting into the real estate industry, he was in the medical field, practicing obstetrics and gynecology for over 34 years.  He has a keen sense for making a property successful, and keeps each one up to par.

Managing a property can be hard work and you need to stay on top of things such as maintenance, book keeping and monthly rent. There are a few areas of property management including single family and multi-family homes and condos and apartment buildings. Home rentals differ from multi-unit properties in that you are usually dealing with a single person or family. Also, with apartments, you can set up a property management office on site. In fact, there are now millions of single family rentals listed on MLSs by real estate brokers. While the for-sale inventory of homes has gone down since 2005, the rental share rose 13.3 percent last year alone. Rental closings also went up nearly 11.5 percent last year while prices fell 9.8 percent.

Donald Westra JR MD now rents out and manages his properties via his company, Westra Properties. Here are a few words of wisdom for anyone considering renting out their home.
